Why soil testing matters for your farm
New Zealand farmers push their soils hard - and often without putting back the full range of nutrients and trace elements that stock and crops take out.
Over time, that leads to poorer pasture performance, animal health issues, and wasted money on fertiliser that isn’t doing the job.
If you’ve found the traditional granular superphosphate approach isn’t working, or if your animals are showing the effects in their health and condition, soil testing is the first step to fixing the problem.
At UPTAKE, soil, herbage, and animal testing form the backbone of every nutrient plan we build. Because good decisions start with good data.

What we test:
Macro & trace element profiles:
N, P, K, S, Ca, Mg, Na plus Boron, Manganese, Iron, Cobalt, Copper, Zinc, Selenium, Molybdenum & Iodine.
pH & cation balance:
Detect nutrient availability issues or lock-up.
Organic matter:
Understand carbon levels and soil biology.
Soil fertility trends:
Track nutrient movement over time.
Herbage mineral levels:
Confirm what nutrients are actually reaching your pasture.
Saturation levels:
See what’s locked up in your soils.
Accurate, farm-specific
testing for New Zealand
conditions:
No two soils are the same. From volcanic and pumice soils in the North Island to alluvial and loess soils in the South, each farm has its own challenges.
That’s why we partner with Eurofins Laboratories for reliable, standardised test results, then use those results to design a fertiliser blend specific to your soil type, climate, and production system.
Our sampling process goes beyond a single spadeful. We take numerous samples across your farm, treating hill country, rolling land, and flats separately, until we have a clear picture of your soil health.
